REVIEW – Buying a TV has become one of those decisions where the spec sheet can slow you down more than it helps. Prices keep dropping, the feature lists keep getting longer, and plenty of sets now promise premium picture technology without a premium price. The Hisense 65″ Class U6 Series Mini-LED ULED 4K Google TV lands squarely in that sweet spot. It brings Mini-LED backlighting, Quantum Dot color, Google TV, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos into a package that cost just over $700 at the time of review. After living with it, I found it delivers a lot of picture for the money, even if the speakers, viewing angles, and overall build remind you this is still a value-focused TV.

The Basics

The U6N is a 65″ 4K smart TV built around Hisense’s ULED image processing and a Mini-LED backlight with full-array local dimming. It supports the major HDR formats, including Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG, and it uses Google TV as the main interface for streaming apps, recommendations, search, and voice control.

As expected for a 65″ television, the box is big and awkward, but Hisense packs the TV well. The double-walled carton, corner protection, and thick foam inserts kept the panel secure during shipping.

Design & Build

The U6N looks more expensive than it is from the front. The bezels are narrow, the profile is reasonably slim for a TV with Mini-LED backlighting, and the large screen becomes the focus instead of the frame. The stand legs support the 60-pound display well once installed, although the overall construction does not feel as premium as higher-end models.

The real reason to consider this TV is the display technology. Mini-LED backlighting helps the U6N produce stronger brightness and better contrast than basic LED sets, while Quantum Dot Color and Hisense’s ULED processing help push richer colors and deeper blacks. Compatible Dolby Vision and HDR10+ content benefits most, but even everyday streaming looks crisp once the picture settings are dialed in.

Connectivity is generous for this price range. The TV includes four high-speed HDMI inputs, including one HDMI 2.1 port, which gives gamers and home theater users more flexibility for current and future sources.

Hisense also includes USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth. That means you can wire the TV directly to your router, pair wireless audio gear, connect external devices, or keep the whole setup simple with built-in streaming apps.

The remote is lightweight and straightforward. The button layout is easy to learn, the directional pad is where you expect it, and the dedicated shortcut buttons make jumping into popular services faster.

In daily use, the remote responded quickly and Google Assistant voice control worked well for finding content and changing settings. I still prefer fewer branded shortcut buttons, but they are useful if you regularly use the services printed on the remote.

Getting Started

Physical setup is uncomplicated, but this is still a big TV, so having another person nearby is a good idea. Once the panel is safely out of the box, the rest of the process is mostly attaching the stand, connecting sources, and walking through Google TV’s on-screen setup.

Installing the stand took roughly 10 to 15 minutes with a screwdriver. The legs slide into the mounting points and are secured with the included screws.

The TV has two sets of stand slots. I chose the wider outside position for the most stable footprint, but the narrower option is helpful if your console or table is not as wide.

The legs fit without any drama, and once tightened, the TV felt secure. It is not fancy hardware, but it does the job.

If you do not want to use the stand, the rear panel includes VESA-compatible mounting holes. A wall mount would also be a good way to minimize the footprint of such a large screen.

After the TV is physically positioned, connect your streaming box, game console, antenna, or other source devices. There is also an optical audio output for soundbars and receivers, plus Ethernet if you prefer a wired network connection over Wi-Fi.

The software setup is similarly simple. When you first power on the TV, Google TV walks you through language selection, Wi-Fi, and Google account sign-in.

If you already use Google TV or Android TV elsewhere, the system can pull in familiar apps and settings, which shortens setup considerably.

New users should not have much trouble either. Google TV presents the important steps clearly, and optional items such as smart-device links and picture adjustments are easy to find later.

I always run a new TV through a few basic calibration videos before judging the picture. Free YouTube test patterns make it easy to adjust color, contrast, brightness, and black levels, and the U6N responded well to those tweaks.

Living With It

Once calibrated, picture quality is the U6N’s strongest argument. 4K material looks sharp and detailed, colors are bright without feeling cartoonish, and the Mini-LED backlight gives dark scenes more weight than you usually get from lower-cost LED TVs.

The image can be convincing enough to confuse the four-legged members of the household. Our resident squirrel expert was very interested when a giant squirrel appeared on screen.

Color reproduction was strong across the test patterns I used. The TV handled gradients and bold colors well, and it did not take much adjustment to get a pleasing picture.

Brightness and contrast were also impressive for the money. Black levels are not OLED-level, of course, but the local dimming helps give darker scenes more depth than I expected at this price.

The biggest compromise is sound. The built-in 20W speakers are fine for news, casual YouTube, and everyday watching, but they do not match the scale of the picture. Movies and action-heavy shows sound flatter than they should, so a soundbar or home theater system is worth budgeting for.

Google TV is another plus overall. The app selection is broad, recommendations are convenient, and voice search is useful. I did notice that some apps felt smoother than others, but the experience was still easy to live with.

For $703.01, it gives you a big 4K screen, Mini-LED backlighting, Quantum Dot color, broad HDR support, four HDMI inputs, and Google TV in one affordable package. The speakers are only average, the viewing angles are not perfect, and the TV does not feel as polished as more expensive sets, but the value is hard to ignore. If you want a large, bright, feature-packed TV without emptying your wallet, the U6N makes a strong case for itself.
