New York Comic Con 2024 video trip report – All the pop-culture you can handle

NYCC2024 0183

For many, fall marks the end of summer, the start of winter, or the lead-up to the holidays—but for me, it’s all about one thing: New York Comic Con. Every October, the Jacob K. Javits Center transforms into a haven for pop culture enthusiasts, comic book aficionados, cosplayers, and fans of all things geeky. It’s a celebration of creativity, fandom, and the stories that bring us all together, and this year’s edition didn’t disappoint.

From the exclusive sneak-peek panels to the overwhelming display of merch and original art, NYCC 2024 was firing on all cylinders.

NYCC Videos

With my trusty video crew in tow, I walked the floors of NYCC 2024 for days and was able to find some great new vendors to interview, innovative cosplayers, and an artist who specializes in some super adorable commissions.

Intro

From the halls of the cavernous Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, NYCC 2024 kicks off!

The Black Flag

Scott from The Black Flag gave us an exclusive tasting of their unique hot sauces while describing how they craft items like their delicious Korean Ginger Dragon BBQ Sauce. Hailing from Seattle, this was their first NYCC, and they were psyched by the reception. Check them out at https://www.theblackflagbbq.com.

Gallery Panda

Adrian from Gallery Panda walked us through the design and features of their new Lightbox Frame. This innovative frame has its own app, which allows you to change the colors backlighting your art. They also have collections featuring tons of amazing artists specializing in every style of art you can think of. Check out their online store at https://gallerypanda.com.

Harebrained Designs

For something completely off-the-wall, we talked to Amanda from Harebrained Designs. Based out of Chicago, they specialize in humorous “period panties” with fun designs like their Shark Week and Redrum undies. This was their third NYCC, and they’re always a popular vendor. Browse their wares at https://www.harebraineddesign.com.

Nerds and Nomads

Nerds and Nomads’ handcrafted art absolutely blew us away. Jennifer described their handmade production process and how they actually bake their designs onto different Yeti items, creating high-end art/drinkware. They roam the country as an RV family selling their products but can always be found online at https://www.nerdsandnomads.com.

K. Lynn Smith

For the first time at NYCC, we interviewed an artist from the famed Artist Alley. K. Lynn Smith is not only an award-winning artist and writer from Michigan, but she is also the creator of the western comic Plume, the fantasy adventure For Goodness’ Sake, and the 1940s supernatural The House of Lowther. During NYCC, K. Lynn also produced some of the most adorable pet portrait commissions I’ve ever seen. So good, in fact, I had to get one done of my pup, Addy. Learn more about K. Lynn and her art at https://www.klynnsmith.net.

Panels

I finally stopped walking around long enough to attend some terrific panels at NYCC. Both What We Do in the Shadows and Star Trek: Lower Decks are favorite shows of mine and, sadly, are in their final seasons. So it was a thrill to see the cast and writers reminiscing about their past seasons and giving us a sneak peek at their final ones.

The cast of What We Do in the Shadows did not disappoint and were as hilarious and random as their vampiric characters. Luckily, we were treated to the first two episodes of the final season, and they were appropriately hysterical.

Seeing the actors who voice the characters on Star Trek: Lower Decks interact with each other much like their quirky Starfleet alter egos do was a real treat for a fan such as myself. This panel was also gifted with a preview of the upcoming episodes, and it reminded me how sad I’ll be when the crew of the USS Cerritos flies off into the sunset.

Until next year NYCC!

Random NYCC Pics

Since I walked through NYCC for four days taking pictures and videos of everything that caught my eye, I figured I’d post them all here in no particular order for everyone to enjoy.
